1. Summarize the section found on page 695.
2. Answer the following question: What problems are created by uneven rainfall throughout the year? What are some solutions?

  1. The climates of East and Southeast Asia vary on the three different air masses. The first air mass brings cold, dry, air from the Arctic region, the second air mass brings cool, dry, air from west eastward across Asia, the third air mass brings warm, moist air from the Pacific Ocean. Winds are also a major factor in the climate, like in Northern China, Mongolia, and Siberia when winds lower the temps below freezing. Monsoon winds affect South Asia. The monsoon winds sweep in from the Pacific Ocean and blows from southeast to East Asia. During the summer monsoons inland parts of East Asia receive 80 percent of their rainfall. Oceanic currents play a big part in the temps of island countries like Japan. Warm-water currents flow in southeastern Japan making the climate very warm and moist. Harsh cold climates affect the northerner most parts of Japan, bring in with it cold winters.

Problems that are created by uneven rainfall are flooding for one. Uneven rainfall will cause flooding because the first rain will flood the rivers therefore flooding the ocean. The second rainfall might bring more rain it might not but it still brings rain and in ends term causes flooding in river, oceans, and lakes. A solution to this is build the river banks up to a height that is safe enough to stop the flooding.
