In the northern and far parts of western East Asia the climate is very dry. It is dry because it has continental air blowing across Asia from the west. I the winter cold dry air from the Arctic come and hit the same spots. Mongolia and northern China have a steppe climate because it receives little rainfall. The grasses there can support only a few species cattle, sheep, goats, and camels. Summers are very dry but on a good day receive little rainfall. A dry summer is followed by a harsh winter also called a dzud. Mongolians feat dzud because one year they had one winter that was followed by a series of them. The countries livestock was cut down to one-third of the population over 10 million animals died. The Gobi desert is on the southern most part of Mongolia and receives no rainfall and is extremely dry.
ReplyDeleteMonsoons affect East Asia by flooding and making the climate very humid. People still live in these environments because provides good farming and livestock. Even though the monsoons bring tons of rain they live there because they have to make money and as we all know making money is not always easy. That is why they live there to make a living.
