  1. Much of this region is found in the Tropics, and the area receives direct rays from the sun all year round. The temperatures in this region are usually always the same with summers being hot, and winters being warm. The winters are warm because warm air from the equator keeps the area warm. The highlands of this area have a highland climate. This climate has mostly cool temperatures, and temperatures drop even lower when you go farther into the mountains.

The areas around the equator stay cooler because sea breezes keep the coastal areas cooler and moderate. Altitude has an effect on keeping temperatures cool in lower tropical areas. The island of Singapore has never had a temperature higher than 97 degrees F. The mountains that cross the islands Borneo and New Guinea are also mainly cool. The abundant rain fall can help keep the areas along the equator.
